I am so pumped to release this song and video, it feels good to share something new with all of you. ANNABELLE is about a woman living out of her car struggling to forge ahead in a big city. She experiences bumps and bruises along the way but she makes the most of it while pressing forward in pursuit of what her heart desires. I feel this story is especially relevant because many people, particularly in Vancouver, are struggling to find a place to call home during the housing crisis. This video is about celebrating women and their journeys.
Feeling pretty good these days, I’m inspired and excited about Canadian music. After spending years touring and promoting the Drive album, in 2017 my band and I took a well needed hiatus from playing live shows. I needed a mental break from it all. Booking shows, social media, juggling different players schedules, playing that same old song on stage while trying to stay inspired to write new tunes was exhausting. In kind of a scary way, I wasn’t inspired at all. I didn’t want to write, and throughout that time I never did. Every time I picked up the guitar to write I felt frustrated with the results. In many ways I think I was a little bit frustrated with the state of the music industry, I felt as if there was less space for the guys and gals with guitars and a killer band and more for the solo artists with a cool Instagram account and laptop with backing tracks. That approach is in many ways more cost effective with a lower overhead, but it’s just not my style right now. It been too long since the last release so here we are. We’re making a new album! We just spent 4 days at monarch studios, tracking 7 songs and things are sounding bigger than ever. Wunderbar!
Everyday I am so greatful to be doing something I love. I want to sincerely thank The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent On Recordings for their support on my upcoming release. In May was award a $21,000 Juried Sound Recording grant to put towards the recording and marketing of the new record. I can’t wait to get in the studio with my band and to finally share some new tunes with you. Stay tuned!
